However, designing Twitter backgrounds can be really aggravating because of how difficult it is to predict how it&#039;ll appear on others&#039; screens.  This is largely due to the variety of resolutions, but even the viewer’s browser app &amp;toolbar settings will affect how much space you have to work with.  Many of the best backgrounds end up being mostly obscured by Twitter’s panels on many of the viewers&#039; screens.

So it seems like you either have to simply design for your own resolution and not worry about how it looks for anyone else - or be very conservative with your design, using about an inch or so of the leftmost portion of the screen to be reasonably sure that your design won’t get stomped all over by the static Twitter layout boxes
