Thanks! Yeah it was a ton of fun and more to come. I have not printed any screens yet, but space invaders sounds cool. I was also thinking something like Buck Rogers or Wolfenstein

Yes, function.php does not work the same as a custom plugin. See http://codex.wordpress.org/Writing_a_Plugin
